About
The Rapid Innovation Unit (RIU) is a research group between the University of Limerick and the University Hospital Limerick Group, supported by Science Foundation Ireland through the Confirm smart manufacturing centre. The aim of RIU is to apply cutting edge 3D printing technologies to address previously unmet clinical needs to enhance patient quality of life, while working closely with all stakeholders within the ULH Group to foster an ‘innovation ecosystem’.
Mission
To inspire and lead a culture of collaborative research and education, to identify unmet clinical needs, and design novel medical devices that enhance patient care, outcomes, and quality of life.
Vision
Lead cutting edge collaborative research across ULHG and UL to transform the ways in which patients are treated nationally and internationally by harnessing a broad spectrum of clinical and academic expertise across disciplines.
Inspire and educate clinical stakeholders to develop an innovation ecosystem within the ULH Group, by providing skills and training opportunities to approach health care challenges and opportunities from alternative solution orientated perspectives.
To apply the RIU model to identify previously unmet clinical needs across multiple clinical fields in the ULH Group.
Facilitate co-design of innovative medical technologies that radically enhance patient care and quality of life.
